Year 6

                                                                                                        1st June 2020

Dear Parents,

Thank you so much for supporting your children with their home learning over the past half term. We are now in a situation where we have some children returning to school and others continuing with home learning and when we all return to school is unclear. In light of this, we have changed our approach a little and below is an outline of our learning expectations for this half term whether your child is at home or in school.

TOPIC WORK

Each class has a new topic to study which lends itself well to cross curricular work. This half term however, the class teacher will set tasks linked to the topic which will need to be completed on a daily basis. Instructions and a list of activities are included on your child’s class page.

ENGLISH

Each class teacher will continue to post a video via db primary outlining the week’s English learning. This half term, the children will be expected to complete a daily English task which is outlined on the class learning grid. It is important that your child completes these tasks in order as they are a build up to a final piece of writing

BBCbitesize DAILY LESSONS

For extra work, please visit the ‘Daily Lessons’ on the bbcbitesize website for your child’s year group

READING

We expect reading to take place every day: EYFS-10mins    KS1-15mins   Y3/Y4- 20mins     Y5/Y6 - 30mins

In addition, the children have a weekly reading comprehension task to complete.

SPAG

A Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation task will continue to be set each week. Please be aware that the activity mats include three levels (one star being the easiest). Your child only needs to complete one.

Your child’s year group spelling list will be available on your class page for reference and revision.

MATHEMATICS

During this half term, we will be continuing to revise the Year 6 curriculum and introduce the basics of some of the topics that still need to be covered before the children move on to secondary school.  It is important that the children are aware of all the topics but do not need to have understood in any great detail as these will be re-taught in their new schools.  The format will be as before with a Powerpoint to introduce the lesson followed by activities and challenges.

Please continue to create a routine for home learning as suggested below:

Children should continue to record their work either on paper or in a book. They may wish to create a new project folder or book for their cross curricular topic where they can record their work and add pictures and photographs. The children can share their home learning at any time via dbprimary where they can write a daily blog or upload their work, photos and video clips. On return to school, we expect all children to share their completed work.

The children’s communication via dbprimary has been fantastic and it is so reassuring that learning is continuing.

We thank you once again for your support during this challenging time.  Please do not feel overwhelmed by our requests but just do the best you can within your family commitments and circumstances.

Kind regards

Hazlemere Staff
