Year 4
Welcome to Year 4 2022- 2023
Dear Parents and Carers of Year 4,
A huge thank you for supporting your child with their learning this term. Also, a big thankyou for helping your child to collect sponsors for our 'Big Read' on World Book Day. As a school we raised over £2000! The children are gradually becoming more responsible readers and they are beginning to understand the importance of reading regularly.
Last term, weeks of hard work culminated in a fantastic performance at the Wycombe Swan. The children were amazing and it was great to see them enjoy the event and grow in confidence when performing in front of an audience. They sang enthusiastically as members of the mass choir and worked so cooperatively in their class dance. I was so proud of them!
We are looking forward to our residential trip to 'Woodrow High House' on the 2nd and 3rd May where the children will be involved in a whole range of team building and out door activities.
The beginning of May will also be a significant time, when as a school we will be celebrating the coronation of King Charles 111
We have some exciting topics ahead of us in the Summer term including lots of cross curricular work linked to ‘The Romans'. We will be exploring the topic of The Romans and the Roman empire and its impact on Britain. We will also be researching the Roman city of Pompeii and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Our main class text which links well to this topic will be the historical mystery; ‘The Thieves of Ostia.'
In June, we will be visiting the London Aquarium as a whole school , celebrating 'Ocean Day' and the theme 'Action in the Ocean'.
A reminder that Year 4 will be sitting their statutory multiplication check in June and they need to continue practising against the clock.
Thank you for your support with home reading and signing diaries. All children are expected to read at home on a daily basis.
The children will be taught by myself and Mrs Haq will cover on a Monday and Tuesday which releases me for my planning and preparation session and leadership time. I am assisted by Mrs Richards who will continue to support individuals and run interventions. We also have a trainee teacher who will be working with us during the Summer term.
I hope that our final term together proves to be a positive and successful one. Please do arrange to talk to me if you have any concerns. If it is a short matter of information, I will be on the playground after school, most days. If you would prefer to talk something through with me, then please contact the school office to arrange an appointment.
Kind Regards
Mrs Opiola
