Spring Term Highlights
Year Two have enjoyed reading ‘The Boy who Would be King’ by Micheal Murpurgo in their English lessons. They have written their own creative middle to the story where Charles goes on a new adventure after running away from boarding school. He met a whole range of new characters in weird and wonderful settings. They have also written a diary entry from the viewpoint of Charles as a child, on a normal day, where he enjoyed a walk in the countryside with his family.
In science, in our learning about materials, we have been thinking more about their properties and uses and in particular focusing on sustainability. We have tested a range of materials to see if they can be folded, ripped, ripped when wet and to see if they are waterproof. We then decided which materials were most eco-friendly before making our own plant pots and decorating them. We are looking forward to using our eco-friendly plant pots when we plant seeds in the summer term.
In history, we have been learning about the monarchy and how castles have changed over time. We learnt about how William the Conqueror became king and how he changed the materials that castles were made from to make them a stronger form of defence. We have also enjoyed learning about the important parts of a coronation ceremony.
Finally, we have had a great time at our two Forest School sessions, albeit having to crawl on our hands and needs to get under a fallen fence on our journeys there and back! We had great fun doing our normal den building and tree climbing fun, especially across the fallen tree that made a whole new challenge for many children.
